How Tracking Works

SentinMail automatically injects tracking into your outbound emails:

  • Open tracking — a tiny transparent image (1x1 pixel) is added to the email. When the recipient's email client loads the image, an "opened" event is recorded.
  • Click tracking — links in your email are wrapped through a redirect that logs the click before sending the recipient to the original URL.
Note
Open tracking depends on image loading, which some email clients block by default (like Outlook with images disabled). Treat open rates as a lower-bound estimate.

Both tracking methods are automatic — you don't need to configure anything.

Unsubscribe Tracking

Every email includes an automatic unsubscribe link in the headers and footer. When a recipient clicks it:

  1. They're taken to a confirmation page
  2. A suppression is created for their email address
  3. An "unsubscribed" event is logged
  4. They won't receive future emails from your company
Tip
Monitor your unsubscribe rate. A sudden spike usually means your content isn't matching subscriber expectations or you're sending too frequently.

Webhooks — Real-Time Events (Paid Plans)

For deeper integrations, set up webhooks to receive real-time HTTP notifications when email events occur.

Go to Infrastructure → Webhooks

Navigate to Infrastructure → Webhooks and click Create Webhook.

Configure the webhook

  • URL — your HTTPS endpoint that will receive events
  • Events — select which events to subscribe to

Start receiving events

SentinMail will POST event data to your URL as events happen.

Event Types

EventWhen It Fires
DeliveredEmail accepted by the recipient's mail server
OpenedRecipient opened the email
ClickedRecipient clicked a tracked link
BouncedDelivery failed (invalid address, full inbox, etc.)
UnsubscribedRecipient opted out
Watch Your Bounces
High bounce rates damage your sender reputation. If you see many bounces, clean your subscriber list by removing invalid addresses and checking for typos.

Activity Log (Admin/Owner Only)

Go to Settings → Activity to see a chronological log of everything that's happened in your company — members added, templates created, campaigns sent, settings changed.

Use this for:

  • Audit trail — who did what and when
  • Debugging — understanding why something changed
  • Team oversight — monitoring team activity
